Partnership starting date?

Ptnsh assets put into service 10-1-10. I want partnership on a calendar year basis. On the initial return, at the top, do I fill in 10-1-10 to 12-31-10, or leave blank with the assumption of the calendar year? My software flagged red when I left the dates off, but I want a calendar year.

It is simply a short year. You can put in 10/1 to 12/31 and that is a calendar year treatment because of the ending month. Not sure why your software "flagged it" if you left the dates off. Seems like it would just consider it a whole year.
