What's the latest with the PTIN?

I filled out the form and mailed it in December. I think I got a notice that they received it and would be working on it but not to worry because I could use my existing info for the 2011 tax season.

    I haven't heard anything since....................

Couldn't hurt to contact them. Or you can apply on line even if you previously sent an app by mail
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

Did things change such that they may not follow thru on my app?

Maybe they decided that existing PTINs were adequate??

I'm a CPA if that makes any dif.

            October

The way I read what is on the website we won't be able to re register until October. Just what I need, one more essential task that time of year.

Did they cash your check? It was my understanding that would not happen until the PTIN was issued.

They will follow thru but applying online is faster.

Good question....... they did on 2/1/11. Looks like they stamped 12/7/10 on the front of the check which is probably when they received it. Next to the date they stamped a six-digit number starting with zero.

The 2/1/11 date is probably when the PTIN was issued. That's about the right time frame. Call and tell them to fax duplicate letter. You apparently never got it.
