One added thought about personal luggage used to transport purely personal clothing (not used to transport business equipment, manuals, etc) is that IRS does not allow a nurse to deduct a wrist watch, even though she uses it to take patients' heart beat count. In olden day it was allowed, but somewhere along the line IRS specifically prohibited it.
Now if a piece of luggage was purchased and used solely to transport business related equipment and the like, then I would have no qualms about deducting it under section 162.ChEAr$,
