In an earlier thread someone suggested that I try OLT Pro and I dismissed the idea because I thought they were web based only. I found out today that's not right. Their Business Returns are ONLY on Desktop and for $499 they will give you their whole software on Desktop with as near as I can tell no additional fees ever. So, I'm demo-ing them and I'd like to hear from satisfied and unsatisfied users.

What is a 1041?
I looked in my software's forms list and I came up with an Arkansas K-1 and I looked on www.irs.gov and came up with worksheet for tracking basis in something. Maybe after some sleep I will remember but right now I have no idea what a 1041 is and doubt I have ever prepared or even seen one.
Wait it's beginning to come to me - is 1041 for Estates and Trusts? I'm not presently qualified to write one of those and I don't plan to change that until after next tax season but I wouldn't like to adopt for next season software that does not handle them well because then I'd want to change again after 2012.Last edited by erchess; 05-28-2011, 04:37 AM.

It's been a couple of years.
OLT may have improved. I find that even Drake isn't that all wonderful on 1041's. I have to enter so many overrides that I feel I'm doing the return by hand. I think a lot of the programmers must not really understand the 1041. It is significantly different from what one ordinarily thinks of as a tax return. Maybe that's why TaxAct hasn't gotten into it!Evan Appelman, EA
