You lost me in the curve re Drake efile pricing. It looks as if you are effectively paying $19 per return (US+state ?). While my practice is not large, it does involve far more than 25 tax returns and, barring unforeseen events, all of them have been efiled even before the IRS started its current arm-twisting. As for the MFS thing again, are you saying you can efile two tax returns (husband's MFS and wife's MFS) for a single efile cost? BOGO??? I seriously doubt that...

Personally I have never encountered "all the problems....with TaxACT" you mentioned (and the software has improved dramatically within the last few years).

Nor have I ever had issues with "downloads of efiles." I assume you mean uploads of completed files for submission?? Never has it taken me more than a few seconds to transmit any return via TaxACT. As for actual downloads (software/updates/state modules) they have gone smoothly, and I only have a mid-range DSL connection.

Yes, I meant that when you prepare MFS in Drake PPR you still pay for one return.not two. I used 25 b/c that was an easy number to work with. The whole point of the comparison is to point out TaxAct is not as cheap as first seems. It may work well for some, was not what I needed. And yes, I had trouble many times sending efiles up to TaxAct. And when I would call or email support I got no help whatsoever. NONE. The MFS comparison in Drake works both Fed and State for you. and does well. I compare it against Lacerte all the time. Lacerte has some better features but Drake does well. Ohio is one of the few states that MFS pays off frequently.

I used TaxAct for many years when my own home business was small. I have outgrown it now and need many of the other entities and functions that cost extra or are not available in TaxAct. Does TaxAct work?? Sure. Just not for me at this time. When I figure in the value of the CWU to do payroll instead of having to pay Intuit every year for payroll module and the different returns I do now I find that Drake pencils out better for me.

You must have some very interesting state tax laws.

That (state) dog won't hunt around here.....whereas the IRS numbers are fairly in line with H/W having roughly equal income et al.
