A US citizen (Mary) living full time in France may join her sisters in an LLC in the US to manage some rental properties. Mary has no US income and very little French income (approx $25,000 as a sculptor). She has never filed taxes with US and is worried that if she becomes a member of the LLC, she will have to file in the US and doesn't want to "open that can of worms". This is not my specialty so I'd like to know: 1) Doesn't she have to file a US return even if the LLC reports a profit less than the exclusion or even if the LLC shows a loss? 2) should she have been filing all along to report her French income even though it is less than the exclusion $91,500? thanks.
