    New Desktop Computer

A year ago on April 12, 2010 I purchased a HP Compaq Presario desktop computer from
Office Depot at a cost of $342. It has functioned perfectly as my main computer. It is
not as fast as my older computer but it gets the job done. It has a 350 gb harddrive.
It was difficult for me to learn to use it's Windows 7 64 bit operating system.
The manual says to NEVER turn the computer off but instead put it into the SLEEP
MODE. The result is an almost instant start up. Most problems occur at start up.
I keep my computer on 24 hours per day during the tax filing season. Two weeks
ago I purchased an identical computer to be used as a backup computer from Office
Depot at a cost of $299.59 including sales tax. It has a 500 gb harddrive and some
improvments have been to the OP. I hope to purchase a Solid State Drive desktop
computer when their prices come down and they become reliable. A friend bought one
and is experiencing much trouble with it. I recommend the HP computers. The cost of the
printing and other cables are very expensive at Office Depot. You can purchase these on
    ebay much cheaper.

I have never had good luck with HP or Compaq computers, but that was many years ago.

I love their Printers and Monitors>> That is it.

I bought a HP computer at the beginning of tax season after my homebrew one went out on me. Could have fixed it but did not have time. I bought it from Best Buy... no geeks attacked me because I came in told them what model I wanted as I had researched it online. Also they have a much better return policy than depot, max, or staples. 30 days instead of 15 and if I remember correctly they will actually refund your money not just do an exchange. I have not had any problems at all with my HP going good (knock on wood). I won't be buying anymore printers from them again. But maybe that is their lower end priced printers that I've had trouble with.

I won't be doing any business with Office Depot again because of being mislead on the very same computer. I know I should not fault the whole company because of one lousy sales person but the one here in town seems to be going down hill. I use to go there to buy all my office stuff. But they either don't have it or don't know where it is at in the store. So I just started buying at Staples.

If you are doing your research ahead of time, I have to recommend two online AUCTION sites to snoop around in -

          1) COWBOOM.COM .. (I did not name it)... Dell system, cheap, arrived in PERFECT condition.. when I did the software upgrade per the Dell manual, the machine bit the dust and turned into a boat anchor .. called COWBOOM (they are in California, where else), explained everything totally honest with them .. they said NO PROBLEM .. gave me a full refund and sent a UPS label for free return shipping.

          2) SAM'S CLUB AUCTIONS .. same situation as above, Dell system arrived in perfect condition... flashed the BIOS per the manual .. voila, instant ashtray. Contacted SAM'S, explained everything totally honest with them .. they said NO PROBLEM .. gave me a full refund, sent a label for free return shipping, AND let my use my bid as a winning bid on another DELL they had for sale.

So, since it is the slow season and if you know what you want to buy , there are some good auction/discount sites out there that provide EXCELLENT customer support.
Just because I look dumb does not mean I am not.

My HP Pavilion at office is more than 5 years old, still works perfectly. At that time, maybe 6 years ago? 7?/ 140 gig hard drive was so much more than I needed, and I quipped that I might never have to replace it. (I had been through about 10 computers before that dating back to 1978).
Amazingly, just this week I noticed the hard drive still has 75% free space.
Now, you reckon it will last longer than I?
