Reinstatement of Renewal Period for EAs

Old news - but I thought the CAUTION might be good to know for those of us that trust the form and instruction accuracy:

Reinstatement of Renewal Period for EAs

According to Announcement 2011-29, the renewal period for enrolled agents with social security numbers ending in 4, 5 or 6 will restart on June 1, 2011 and will have until August 30, 2011 to renew their license at the $30 rate. The renewal will be retroactive to April 1, 2011 for enrolled agents who properly renew their enrollment prior to the August 30, 2011 deadline. Even though their card indicates a March 31, 2011 expiration date, enrolled agents with social security numbers ending in 4, 5 or 6 remain enrolled in good standing. The IRS expects to process the forms and issue enrollment cards within 90 days of the end of the renewal period, by November 28, 2011.

The IRS has not posted a revised Form 23, Application for Enrollment to Practice Before the Internal Revenue Service, although they have posted the following note preceding Form 23:

    CAUTION:
Effective April 19, 2011, the enrollment fee is $30.00. Please disregard the form instructions, they are under revision and will be modified at a later date.

Form 8554, Application for Renewal of Enrollment to Practice Before the Internal Revenue Service has not been posted to the IRS website.
