    Testing requirements

Has anyone taken the IRS test yet? Is there different levels of Test?

The test isn't available yet. The IRS hasn't posted any info on it yet.

I believe there are two levels...when they are available. One for the basic return, the other includes Sch C.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

        Content of IRS Tests

I will try to attach a listing of the content for the 2 levels of tests. I obtained this info at an update seminar in December. It was not IRS sponsored but the presenter attends IRS seminars regularly so I presume it is accurate. If attachment can't be viewed in a readable form, I will type out the info when I have time; this is my first time doing an attachment on this forum!

          First Level

It sounds like the first level test could be ready this summer, but not the second level until a later date, later year, whatever.

            Maybe only one test

On the recent IRS webinar on this subject, I thought that I heard that the plans have changed, and there will be only ONE test, not two levels as originally announced.

If you really want to know, you can listen to the whole one hour presentation at

I couldn't find any way to skip ahead to near the end, where I recall this was discussed.

If i recall on the webinar.. he never mentioned specifically 1 or 2 different tests.. they did however mention a few things..

no open book.. other than irs pubs
have to manually calculate things like amt, dependent care, etc
be september ish when a test would be ready
1040 only.. no mention of 1065/1120/1120s

I too was unaware that there would be any "business returns" included in the test

                  Business Returns

It is my understanding that neither test includes preparation of business returns as such (1065, et al) but does involve carrying over information on K-1s from those identities onto individual returns.
