If so, why are you changing?
    Issues and Support, price, etc

If so, to which software are you looking at? and Why?

    Undecided

I have not made any decisions yet, but did have many problems that never seemed to get fixed throughout the season. or it was late before they were.

Support overall was pretty good, but I can't ignore the problems. Renewals notices should be arriving any day now??/ Decisions will have to be made soon.

I used Tax Works for the first time, for the 2010 returns. What a mess. My two words for them are, unstable and inconsistent. I am going back to Drake, in-fact I have already renewed. What a learning experience this tax season has been. I learned that Drake is for me, I had used Drake for 9 years, I guess I was bored, I like trying new things. Never again. Getting to old for this anymore.

I renewed last month without thinking it through carefully (they caught me at a busy time). However, I'm planning on switching over to Drake after next season.

I'll stick with it for another year

This is my 9th year of using TaxWorks and this year was the first time I had any problems, however each update seemed to solve any previous problem. The thought of spending my summer transferring to a new system is not my idea of how to spend my summer vacation. That, and the fact that the previous 8 years have been problem free, means I will be sticking with TaxWorks for another year. We'll see how next year goes. I should point out that the problems I did have were not as severe as the problems the franchise I worked at previously had with their software.

You can cancel the order until it's shipped in December.

I ordered it through a reseller, and they don't have as lenient of a return policy.

                  problems

It was definately a year for problems. Only a price reduction would convince me to return. I have never had this many problems with them..

                    Interesting "Feature"

I just had an interesting discussion with Technical Support about the dunning UAC messages I get when I use TaxWorks and it appears that they do not believe their software is as reliable on a machine with UAC enabled (Vista or Windows 7). They told me to turn it off in Windows 7.

While I tend to find UAC to be an annoyance, I know that the purpose is to help secure my machine against malicious programs. I had no technical issues with TaxWorks (other than it being a memory hog), but this could partially explain why so many of us had issues with it.

Just my opinion, but when a tax software vendor wants you to turn off some security aspects of your operating system, it seems that you would be putting very sensitive data at a higher risk. This is giving me second thoughts about using their software next year.

Has anyone that has used Proseries switched to Drake?

                      If so, differences? likes/dislikes?

I really like Proseries but they continue to increase in price and I feel with each increase I'm just doing more to support Turbo Tax. I've used Proseries since 1993 and I'm leery about changing and the conversion of my files.

                        I'm reasonably satisfied.

I switched about six years ago, so my comments may not apply to your situation. Conversion was seamless and accurate. The entire process took several hours for ~1200 files. I have found Drake to be much faster - a majority of my clients are rather simple with only a few schedules and these tax returns can be completed in about half the time needed in ProSeries. YMMV. Minor annoyances are that there is no education credit/deducton optimization and that interest and dividends are reported on different screens. Major pleasures are that support is much better, price is much cheaper, and the program is overall much easier to use. Again, YMMV.

                          Proseries to ATX

After 10 years with Proseries, I switched to ATX this year. The main reason for my switch was the price of Proseries and their ever increasing fees.
The transition is tough and it definitely tries your patience, but overall I am okay with the change. Customer service with ATX is satisfactory at best, but we were able to muddle through and know that each year will get easier.
I tried to switch to Drake in 2006 but couldn't get through week two in February without ditching the entire program and going back to Proseries. It was the first year Drake had gone to a window based program so that may have had something to do with the many issues I had.

I,ve been with ATX Max for years and after checking and using several others, ATX is my favorite over others. Any comments?
