    E-file my own return

Does anyone have a suggestion how you e-file your own return? My software obviously won't allow it without a preparer designated.

Do you show yourself as preparer and taxpayer or do you paper file?

Self as ERO and taxpayer . . . self-prepared box checked in software.

I know how you feel. For years I tried to get TAxwise to do something about that, but they wouldn't. Probably some others do it also.

But now with Drake, one can edit such things. My own 8879 proclaims me as taxpayer and ERO only.

          Not a problem

I've done that for years. Actual tax returns show no preparer information.

Of course, I do have to be my own ERO - which is a separate matter entirely.

So do you have to sign the 8879 authorizing yourself to file your own return and keep it in your file to prove to IRS you actually did authorize yourself to file the return electronically?

Does it matter if you are the preparer? Been doing it for years as preparer. Don't even give it a second thought. File it anyway to get it filed.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

I do this also. And I'm not my 3rd party designee.

I was making a joke. You really are your own 3rd party designee?

Barring any potential schizophrenic surprises, my personal tax return does not yet show myself as a third party designee.

As for some of the comments made by Jesse, this thread was beginning to look like something from "Ghost." Will Oda Mae next be making an appearance here??

                              Preparer, preparerd, ERO....

I don't THINK I have the 3rd party designee checked, but who knows at this point in the season? I have been talking to myself lately. and using 'we' when talking to clients even though it's just me here. I think.
