    Do your clients really fear the IRS?

    Some of mine yes, most NO.

    Many believe that IRS attempts to instill fear into the public to encourage them to
    obey the tax laws. You notice that during tax filing season IRS usually prosecutes
    a few taxpayers for various tax infractions and it is reported in the newspapers.

      My take is that they prosecute them year-round, but a) the news media find those cases more newsworthy during tax season; and b) we find them more memorable when they're reported during tax season.

        Most of my clients DO! The ones who dont are not my clients (cheaters or non-reporters)
        IRS ADMITS that they intentionally publicize "prosecutions" around tax season to aid in "compliance"

          Most NO but one breaks out in horrible hives in my office while I talk about her taxes; one goes outside and smokes one after the other till I am finished; one shakes and not be still the whole time; one can't even talk to me just whispers thinking I am the IRS; one has beer smell all over him and says he has to 'gear' up for me; one talks non stop until I tell him he owes IRS AND me;

          They are alot that are upset at me they owe; but I just smile and tell them I work with the puzzle pieces they give me; sorry they don't like the finished picture.

            I think most of mine fear IRS

            Yeah, I think I see more people being fearful than not. Some are just stupid about it. I mean, good grief, you have a W-2, and you don't do any "side jobs," you are NOT going to be audited. And, so what if you are?!

            "Is it a red flag if my income is different this year?" Was your income different? "Yes." Well, no, that's called math.

            Of course, I have seen the ones who drove 675 miles a day for work. Yeah, whatever, you're an idiot. Guess they have that new flux capacitor engine. I lay down the law on that, and they leave. So, the fearless ones are out there.
            If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

                Mine too. One just came in, so apologetic that he forgot to give me stock dividend info for the last 2 years. He said "if it was in his favor, he would not bother amending, but if it was in the IRS favor he sure wanted it to be right." So we are waiting for his refund to clear before amending. He owes about $40. He overwitholds so much, his refund exceeds $10,000.
