Moved mid yr yet deducted moving exps in 09 & 10

Official move date was 6/2010. Maybe had stuff in storage in 2009. I could see if the official move was near year end and carried over to next year. Form 3903 does not ask for a date.

Storage more than 6 months before the move? Seems a little aggressive and that's aggressive coming from me. I'd say no.

Maybe he sold his house in 2009? Stored his household goods? Then did not move until 2010? I would inquire what his 2009 expenses were. Sometimes they commute to the new job until a permanent move is made. Or sometimes one spouse moves to new area, other spouse stays behind for kids to finish school. IRS says you can deduct moving expenses incurred within one year of the date you reported to new job location. Storage would be limited to 30 days.
