    Dividends Return of capital

Can anyone help with what to do with "Return of capital "amounts on a 1099-DIV statement.
It is listed a Nondividend Distributions but looking deeper it is return of capital.

    TTB page 6-4

Box 3. Nondividend distributions. Shows the part of the distribution
that is nontaxable because it is a return of the taxpayer’s
cost (or other basis). Reduce cost (or other basis) by this amount
for figuring gain or loss when the stock is sold. If the taxpayer gets
back all cost (or other basis), report future distributions as capital
gains. See Nondividend Distributions, page 6-7.

    Nondividend Distributions
Some distributions are a return of cost (or other basis). They will
not be taxed until cost (or other basis) is completely recovered.
Reduce cost (or other basis) by these distributions. If the taxpayer
gets back all cost (or other basis), report the excess distributions
as capital gains on Schedule D.

I know I'm lazy............ I don't keep track of basis due to non-taxable distributions.... I'm not paid to do that..........
