    Lifetime Energy Tax Credit

For the year year 2010 the lifetime energy tax credit LIMIT is $1500. For the tax year 2011 the LIFETIME CREDIT LIMIT is $500. This is quite a reduction. Taxpayers will NOT be able to claim ANY lifetime credit for 2011 or future years IF they have already claimed an energy tax credit of $500 or more in previous years.
For the tax year 2010 WINDOWS must have a U factor <=0.30 SHGC <=.30.
For the tax year 2011 windows must have an ENERGY STAR rating to qualify for the credit.

They must have a manufacturer's certification (or else specific information to show they comply with the applicable standards). The Energy Star rating, by itself, is not sufficient.
