My wife and I have seven cats. My brother and sister in-law were in a car accident a few months back and moved in with us for 5 weeks while they were recovering. They have one cat and two dogs.

One house, one tax preparer, eight cats, two dogs, five weeks…

Let me just say that after the experience, all the peeing and pooping and barking and commotion and yelling and stress and the need for constant attention was not because of the eight cats….

      I rest my case.

Okay, let me rephrase that - I'm glad I have ONLY one dog!

I have a 19 3/4 year old cat who has been my constant companion since his birth. He is quite the old ornery guy now. After two cancer surgeries and the loss of an eye, to get him back to health I started feeding him special food. He likes to eat about every two hours, and is very very insistent when he's hungry. He also gets insistent when he thinks its time for me to go to bed. So he wants to be on my lap while typing, or on my desk.

I was interviewing some clients a few weeks ago, and he wanted to be fed. Mrow, mrow, MROW! during the interview. I kept saying, a few minutes....

Then one of the clients said "Is he peeing back there?"

Yep. He has this method of telling me he's 'pissed off' and will get my attention. Had to excuse myself and get a roll of paper towels that I keep handy.

            Cats

After reading all these posts about cats and their habits, I get the impression they are nothing less than ungrateful, nasty creatures, unlike dogs!

Dennis, Sandy's cat might be reading this message board with her. You better watch out.

I don't have anyone schedule for Friday... yet but I might try bringing him back out here.

Wow Joan... 19 yrs old. That is one tough cat. Mine is pretty hateful sometimes. He wants attention when he wants it. Obviously. But that cat has bite and scratched me so many times. Grumpy cat.

OMG, I must have been nuts thinking I could say something so insensitive and taking a chance it might be overheard?? Spooky will not be happy with me.

Cats don't spray in a situation like this, do they?

I have been a dog and a cat person - cat's are just a little easier now in my life, as they are not as demanding as dogs - and most all of our animals have been "house pets" not outdoors. Thing about cats is that they can be more territorial than a dog, so we as owners or caregivers just have to be mndful.

Dennis, you spoke without thinking - you know what a "special cat" Spooky is! I have not told him and did not let him read your "post"!

Thank you for being so thoughtful. I will be more careful in the future. And, would you tell Spooky how fantastic I think he is and we'll have to do lunch?

I have three other cats and two dogs. Both dogs were once feral/strays that made it into my large yard before it was completely fenced in and are now part of the family. One dog and two of my cats are attention fiends, and usually at least one of them is in the office demanding attention from the clients. Somehow most of my clients are dog people, and love having Alice in there demanding pets while I discuss taxes, and most don't mind either Tasha or Repete in their laps either.

                        Stress level reducers?

I want to say this up front. I am NOT comparing my grandchildren to animals. But something like pets or children around can be a stress reducer. Lightens the mood a little.

But most of my clients come in and look around and ask if my grandchildren are here today. They have seen their pictures and seen them here since they were little. Now they are in school so unless it is my day to pick them up or a no school day they aren't here now.

Most of the time they have been very gracious and seemed to enjoy having them around. One time my grandson got up in one client's lap. He was not the friendliest person but y grandson liked him. He seemed to melt a little.
