JenMO's post about how to e-mail a question to the IRS has developed into a very amusing thread, about something pretty remarkable that happened back in 2009.
It's interesting enough that I decided to start a new thread.
In my initial response to JenMO's post, I said:
I don't want to sound arrogant. This isn't about ME. It is, rather, as noted by kpangelinan, about the fabulous quality of the contributions to this board in general, and the wonderful sense of community that we have built over the years.
JenMO is actually trying to bring to the attention of the IRS something that appears to be a systemic error in their software. That's not something that we on this board can fix. So for this one, we don't have "the answer."
I have related an anecdote from 2009 in which a staff member at the IRS actually consulted this message board for help. Ironically, the issue was almost identical to the issue raised by JenMO.
Here's the current thread that I am referring to, which was started by JenMO just yesterday:
The entire thread is entertaining, and well worth reading.

You'll get a faster, more accurate answer on this board.
