    19 yr in Missionary

A 19 year old worked in January and little in February and earned only $950. Left in February with a church missionary. Am I right about parents cannot claim them cause he was not a full time student and money was not paid through church. Is that correct or let the parents
claim him as a dependent? Any ideas.

    Thanks

Why is not this person a qualifying relative who is temporarily away from home? You don't provide enough information for me to be certain but I think the individual probably qualifies.

Agree that more info is needed. Did the parents actually provide more than half his support for the year? They certainly didn't house or feed him after he left, so it comes down to the money (if any) that they sent to him vs. his support furnished thru the kindness of others.

A son does not have to live with the parents to be a QR.

        Not Claiming due to

The mother does not want to claim the son due to being in the Mormon missionary for 2 years then when coming back to states and if go back to school can qualify for grants is what she was told. So just writing a note and saying not claiming son - now I guess I know why. I give up - just trying to get 1 done and not read between the lines....
Thanks for pointing me in the direction that I needed to take a breath and think....
