Will them send refund to a foreign address?

Taxpayer worked in the US on a temporary visa in 2010. Now he is back to his home country. But he still have to file for the last tax return and he will also have a refund. Refund is always issued to the address on the tax return. So if the address on a 1040NR is in a foreign country, will they issue the refund to that foreign address?

    Foreign Address

Yeah, sure, as long as it's not in Libya...

    or Cuba...

    or North Korea...

What they won't do is a direct deposit to a foreign financial institution.

He no longer has a bank account in the US, huh?

He'll probably get the refund some time next year...

Just kidding. But it may well take two to three months.

Your software should have a box you can check for a foreign address, which will open up a field for the country, and allow for postal codes that contain letters. It may even make you decide whether to put the postal code before or after the state or province. The custom varies from one country to another.

I don't whether you'll be able to file the return electronically...

Is is ok to use a friend's address (US address) as the address on his tax return so he can have the refund sent to a US address (much faster) and the tax return can also be efiled?

        Alternate Address

Yes, as long as it's a valid mailing address, and the friend has agreed to let him use the address, then, yes, I think that's okay.
