    Deceased TP and CP2000

I have a client that the widow received a CP2000 for some unreported interest. When I respond, it must be signed by I know the widower but the husband is deceased now, died in 2010--this is a MFJ return for 2009. What should I do?

    Surviving Spouse

Have her sign it twice. Once with her name, and once with his name.

When she signs his name, it should look something like this:

    Robert Smith
    by Lisa Smith, Surviving Spouse

    or

    Robert Smith
by Lisa Smith, Executor of the Estate of Robert Smith

Thanks, the IRS said to just put "deceased" on his signature line! But if you've done this, I would rather take your word than the IRS agent!! My experience with them has been you call and get one answer from an agent, can turn around and call back and get a completely contrary answer by another agent!!
