Foster Child in 09 & adopted in 2010

    Foster Child in 09 & adopted in 2010

    Foster child was a dependent on 09 tax return. Adoption final in 2010. The child now has a different last name based on SSA-1099 form of the adoptive kid who is receiving SS benefits but same SS#. While I dont have a copy of the kids SS card, would it be safe to say the name on the SSA-1099 would match the kids current SS card?

    Probably. Assuming e-file, the worst that can happen is that it gets rejected and then you just refile with the other last name.
