    (Vent)What to charge.........

    .............for mind reading?!

Return sitting in pending - waiting for information.....phone call - "are they ready for signatures yet, it's been a couple of weeks?",

"No, I'm still waiting for you to give me the $amount$ or the statement from the church to add to your contributions".

"Oh, we decided to just forget about that", aaaargh - now why didn't I know that??????

I might've been able to mind read but I can't see you thru my phone line!!!!!!

        Corporation

So, the LLC/Partnership wanted Inc after it's name and has been an S-corp for three or more years. I have been stressing the 15 March deadline. I have been telling him the last info I need. Sunday I call to see if I can deliver his returns as my son's father-in-law passed away in another state and we need to be out of town. Have everything printed and ready for him to sign and mail. Wife/shareholder says they're out and try Monday. Today I keep trying to email, call, IM, etc. Finally get an email back that he hasn't closed out 2010 yet so we're not filing now, what's the rush. Remind him I was supposed to be on the road to a funeral. Oh, well, let me get back to you with last 2010 expense. 2,778,188 in income, yes that's million. He gets back to me with an expense that's $1,410 more -- and tells me it's to cover software for 2011 through mid 2012. I want to scream NO. I want to put him on extension. I want to NOT reprint for a puny $1,000. I want to get a hair cut and do laundry and pack and not drive 35 minutes to deliver this at all, let alone hours from now after I reprint/assemble/etc. Enough venting.

I vote to put it on extension. That's why God created them.

Especially when a client is this inconsiderate, I have no qualms about sending them an extension. If they squawk, my answer is something to the efffect that "The time to address this was 6 weeks ago, not today." I say file the extension and then get on with the important stuff in life (getting ready for the funeral).

              extension

I agree....send in an extension. An extension doesn't mean you have to wait till summer to do it...although in his case you might.

I put some of my s corps on extension and get them done in the next couple of weeks but sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day to go around.

I have to stop stressing about people like this.

I got tired of calling and reminding people. They should know by now the due date on S-Corps. Since I am now able to efile business returns I just did a list of all the business returns I completed last year and did extensions on them three weeks ago. Two needed to send in net worth tax and I mailed them a voucher to pay it by the 15th.

I've got one client that got corrected statements for schedule D transactions. I do a 8453 to mail in the statements. I will have to completely redo the return. Although not his fault I am charging an extra $40 for reprint. This is a very large and complicated return.

What I like is when the return is finished, they come to pick it up, and then hand you a contribution receipt for $100 bucks. I told one last year I would redo the return but it would cost him $40 and his tax savings would be $10. He can choose on that one.

                  Thank you

Thanx, everyone, for making me feel like I'm not being unreasonable.

                    You are not Unreasonable

I put two on extensions since I did not have info. (1120S or 1120H)
Only so much time and so many days

I am sure there will be more to come for the 4/15 (or 4/18) deadline.

                    Sandy

                      But you are being unreasonable.
                      You're being unreasonable to yourself.

Time to reset the client's expectations & decrease your stress...

Got this email today from a client...

"I hope your charges aren't going up much more. I'll have to find someone else!"

I charge $130 for personal and $180 for a Small S-Corp (charge because it is a small biz that does not have many expenses). Maybe I need to explain that I charge $600 for other S-corp clients.

                          Send that same e-mail

to your power, gas and telephone comoanies and see what happens.

I would have done an extension if the info was not available when I needed it and gone on my way not allowing the client to inconvenience me. If he doesn't like it send him his paperwork back with a bill for your time and tell him to go elsewhere.

This is tangential, but are they a true S-Corp or an LLC choosing to be taxed as an S-Corp?

If the latter, is it even legal to call yourself incorporated if you're not incorporated but merely an LLC choosing a tax treatment?
