    Form 1099

Statement from Merrill Lynch shows an area reporting cost basis information for
    securities subject to amortization/accretion.

Shows Security Description, Quanity, Date Acquired, Original Cost Basis,
Amortization/accretion Year to Date and Life to Date, Adjusted Cost Basis.

    Original basis 15,840
    Year to date (177)
    Life to date (464)
    Adjusted Cost Basis 15,376

Does this have any current use? Used to figure cost basis when sold?

Can anyone shed light on this for me. I have never came across this before.

You are referring to bonds, no?

Sounds like client bought 15,000 of bonds at a 840 premium which can be amortized each year over the remaining life of the bond.
