I had my first "unusual" situation for the tax season....of course, it had to be on my son's return.
Son purchased home in April, 2008 utilizing the FTHB credit. Son sold the home in December, 2009. On his 2009 return, he repaid the entire amount of the credit he received ($6800.00)....fast forward to his 2010 return....supposed to receive refund on 3/4/2011.....and didn't. I gave him the IRS telephone number to call. He contacted the IRS today and they said he failed to include his "FTHB repayment" which was to begin this year.
My son informed the IRS he had repaid the entire sum when he filed last year's return. He said the woman at the IRS was very nice and pulled up his return from last year and saw where the credit had been repaid in full. She said she would forward it to another department for correction and he could expect his refund in about 3 - 4 weeks. GEEZ!!!! Can they screw anything else up?
Anyone else have a similar situation or story?
Hope tax season is going well for everyone.
