    W-2 with no income

This year, I have came across a few W-2s that have no wage in box 1. Most of them are for dependent care benefits so they only have a figure in box 10. The problem is my tax program refuses to efile the tax return because of it. I have just called my tax program technical support. They said it is a IRS efile requirement to have wages in each W-2 in order to efile. To work around it, they said some tax preparers put $1 in box 1 in order to make it efileable. Do you guys do the same thing too? I just find it very uncomfortable to add $1 arbitrarily to a tax return even though it is only ... $1.

How would you handle the situation? Please share.

Wow, excellent idea. Why couldn't I think of this? Thank you very much!

I had one (my own) for non-taxable sick pay, which only showed up in box 12. Just left it off the return, and had no repercussions.

The DCB would have to be keyed, however.
