hearing aid deductible for age 80 music teacher

Am I able to deduct the 1/2 of hearing aid cost of $3000 for the age 80 of a music teacher as business expenses?

    Hearing Aid(s)

I had this come up with a client in the past. After research the answer was NO, you cannot deduct a personal medical expense on a Sch C. Hearing aids are only deductible on Sch A as a medical expense. Client was not happy.

      Agree with taxjungle.

You might want to look at Bakewell 23 TC 803. The taxpayer was a lawyer who wanted to deduct hearing aids as a business expenses.

One small snip in the taxpayer's loss:

[start]Even if it is used in petitioner's business, in fact even if it is necessary for his successful law practice, the device is so personal as to preclude it from being a business expense [end]
