    Donated Air Miles

Ok.. I've got one... And it's my mother-in-law too!!

She donated 30,000 air miles to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Does anyone know how to obtain a fair market value on that??

    Could be wrong

I had "Hilton Points" that I had accumulated for various stays, and then donated them to Haiti Relief.
I never received a check for them or any form of cash or service, and had not used them for my benefit, so I am thinking, I also can not take a Charitable Deduction for what the $$ value might be. I have NO basis in the "Points"

From the Make A Wish Website
    Tax Deductibility
The IRS recognizes award points and miles as a gift or an award from the corporation to the individual. Therefore, points and Frequent Flier miles donated to charity are not considered tax deductible.
So it is considered a Gift.

      Agree

In order to get a FMV for a charitable gift it must be something that would result in long term capital gain if sold. As you can't sell FF miles you are stuck with basis which is zero.
