    REsidential energy credit

Just had a thought.......Can a renter who put energy efficient windows in the rental house he lives in claim the credit? Or do you have to own the home?

Great renter......changed out all the windows not only in his side of the duplex but the other side too.

    No own - no credit

If they do not own it they cannot take a credit for it.

That is what I really thought......just checking myself. They didn't ask for a credit.

I hope they got a credit on the rent!

They are renting from good friends and are retiring and want to stay in this duplex till they die. The duplex was inherited a few years ago and not in good condition. The building had jalousie windows in it still. For you not in the south, these are windows that are narrow slats of glass that make up the window. Not very windproof at all.
So they wanted to make the apartment more weatherproof. I don't know if they got a credit on the rent or not. Guess I'll find out when the landlord comes in to do his taxes.

The landlord, if he did give them credit against the rent, could depreciate the cost of the windows, could he not?
