I do the payroll taxes for three different entities at my day job. I paid the balance due on the 940s via EFTPS on 1/31/11. I selected the correct year, 12/2010. I believe the IRS may have sent these CP161 notices in error. Anyone else receive them? Yes, I could call the IRS, but I would probably be on hold for 45 minutes.

If you did the transaction on 1/31, it would have posted on 2/1.
If you posted it earlier so that it would post on 1/31 you can contact the phone number on the notice.
You have your confirmation number and date, don't you?

Yes, I did the transactions weeks earlier. All three bank accounts were charged on 1/31. I printed out the EFTPS payment history and I'm mailing it in w/ the CP161 voucher. I just got the CP161 notices today.Comment
