Physical book

One thing I have learned about myself is that I simply will not update a physical book unless I receive the pages in the mail and perhaps not even then. Therefore I have decided that I will never again purchase a physical book from TMI unless perchance it is part of a continuing ed course or something else very unusual and of short useful life. I wish I could have ON MY COMPUTER the info from the web program. I did not mind updating the Web CD the last several years and I liked being able to access close to the latest info from a location where I did not have internet. Of the current TMI offerings I like the Web Service best but I wish I could go back to the old Web CD. I definitely am looking for something else but nothing I have seen so far appears on balance to be better. If I had to choose a physical book I would choose competitor Q or CCH which does not offer updates and I'd deliberately avoid learning about changes made after my book was printed. When I got sued by a client or asked for a preparer penalty by the IRS I would plead that I reasonably relied on my book. Yeah I agree that would get me nowhere which is why I choose to avoid physical books since as I say I will not update them.

Book vs Web

I have ordered the books for years - going way back to the QF and then followed TB up to about 2008 - I just finally cleaned my bookshelf and then ended up with great regret a lot of old QF and some TB editions, that I disposed off. Just no more room!

While the WEB edition may not meet everyone's needs, I find a few things that made my decision for 2010 WEB edition.
My computer crashed in late August and I did not want to reload all of my CD's and internet updates on TB (current or past) the Web is nice as I can sign in, and appears to be up to date. My eyes and eyeglasses are getting worse, so sometimes reading print in the book is more difficult Reading online is sometimes easier, particularly since I now have duel monitors.

If TB wants to delay posting to WEB a few weeks for late law changes, I am okay with that, we didn't have anything substantial available through "google" or other internet sources .

If I were ordering the book, I would expect to receive later than sooner to incorporate the last minute law changes.

I agree with some other posters, we should hold the Govt officials accountable - there was no excuse for what happened in Dec 2010 at the 11th hour. Tax Bills should be passed and agreed upon in the early months of the year - by no later than 4/15. All taxpayers amd their tax professionals, should be given the opportunity to plan for the remainder of the Calendar year.

Most up-to-date book!

I prefer to receive the most up-to-date book possible, so whatever date TMI could send it out would suit me fine.

I would be fine with option C. I like having the physical book, it is handier than going on line to check simple facts, and several of my older clients prefer facts in a book than facts checked online. I would not hold Tax Book responsible for a delay when it is so obvious that it is Congress casuing it.
