    Medical Expense-Child Credits

Client kept their 2 grandchildren, ages 13 & 7, for the entire year of 2005. The parents had a lot of financial difficulty. Grandparents totally supported the grandchildren.
What child credits would the grandparents get and they would also claim them as dependents?
2nd question: One child is Dyslexic and is going to a special tutor. cost to grandparents
is about $2000. Can this be a medical expense?
    Thanks for all your input.

Birdlegs, if grandkids lived there all year, grandparents would qualify for all benefits, exemptions, EIC, if applicable and CTC.

I have no clue about the second question. Would be surprised though if expense qualifies as medical.

      Medical depends

If the tutor is a specialist in tutoring dyslexic students then I would take it. All publications state that a child with a medical condition who goes to a school with special services for that condition can take a medical deduction for the costs. I see this as similar.

I agree with Mark and have had similar cases. Usually the special school will give you a letter confirming the facts for deduction documentation.
