PTIN NIghtmare has ended.....

Well... Being the first week of the year and my check hasn't been cashed by the IRS for my PTIN registration just didn't make me feal comfortable inside. So Monday I called the PTIN Hotline and actually got someone that, umm.. ahh... listened....

I told here my long winded story about TRYING to register since September and no-one could help me. Wait, lets try this, no this... Wait.. This... Nothing worked.

And then --- out of no where --- this girl says go ahead logon to the site and do as I tell you to. And I get my PTIN registered bing, bang, boom... Now, hopefully they will not cash my check and I have to chase them for $64.25. But I am HAPPY to say, PTINS AWAY!! Got to keep my original number too....

They say they'll refund additional payments

Good news, Matthew. I had a lot of trouble, too, but finally got my old PTIN reinstated. I had started online but couldn't get too far (I later found out it was over a glitch in their system processing hyphenated last names where there is a joint return with different last names.) Anyhow, I finally got desperate and read the "Frequently asked Questions" online after 3 months of agony. There I saw that they acknowledged the problems and fixed them, and those of us who applied by mail had the option to apply online again and they gave a number to call for help if you need it. It was smooth sailing online.

They stated that if your mail -in payment gets processed after applying online they would send a refund right away. We shall see!

Now we only have to hope and pray that the database with the new PTIN listing gets tied to the efile database correctly. Knowing how efficient and capable the IT department at the IRS is, I have all the confidence of Custer at the LBH.
