Remind me to never change tax software again.

    Unless they offer free conversion.

Spent 2 hours last night re-entering and double checking depreciation details for a client with 10 rental properties.

      NEVER AGAIN.

Not just a reminder for software changes.

        Changing Software

In some cases you have no choice. The company goes out of business or merges with another company who drops the line.
I believe it is wise to go with a company that has several lines so you can always switch easily to one of their other products or go with a company that has a track record of endurance in this business.
Changing software should never be done hastily; Such a move requires a great deal of study, research and projection of your growth patterns. No easy answers here.

          Software

Usually if you go with a top notch (more expensive) software company they do free conversions. I have always used UltraTax, and even though it is more expensive, I know I will not be switching any time soon. One thing you have to look out for with the less expensive software companies is the fact that they will eventually get gobbled up by Thomson (Creative Solutions), Lacerte, Intuit, etc. Then you will be forced to change once again.
I would put a favorite quote in here, but it would get me banned from the board.

            Thanks guys!

Well ATX ( which is who I went with this time ) actually did convert my few corporate returns that I had done last year using ProSeries pay per return system. But I was using TaxAct for my 1040 returns and I guess TaxAct isn't big enough yet for anyone to even think about converting their returns or try to gobble them up.
