Where is TTB new tax law update?

I have gotten information about the new tax law from everywhere, EXCEPT The Tax Book. I thought they would have information sooner than this. I did not order the WEB program, does this leave me out of the loop? The Web portal did not work good for me, I have a slow internet service, took me 10 seconds to move from one page to another.

Has anyone else received any infomation from The Tax Book?

New Law Update

NATP has a 100+page summary of this tax law. I am sure the TaxBook update will be coming. All of these companies are eager to see you their materials ready of not.

Should have waited?

I don't think the thought process at TTB was "let's hurry and get these books outa here so we can go home and enjoy Christmas."

Instead, I'm sure they remember years when they tried to wait and garner any possibility of last-minute changes, but then people started complaining about getting their books too late.

I see them having to deal with a balancing act -- too late and people complain about not having their book. Too early and tons of 11th hour legislation doesn't get into print. So they make committments in their marketing plan to have the book delivered, yet also include all legislative updates which occur through a certain date.

Not sure about every single publication on the market, but most of them are operated by large conglomerates under which tutelage any sudden change in subject material must go through a process requiring layers of approval. In contrast, I believe TTB responds very effectively to this balancing act referenced above.

Most of the changes

in the new tax law are for 2011. There are just a few items that we need to worry about for 2010.

I am glad I just received my book. Gives me time to review and then when the updates come out I just have to look at them.

Better that way then getting the book in mid-January.

Considering that the IRS will not accept efiles of Sch A returns until mid or late Feb...what's the rush?

Guess I'm with you, Piglee. I checked first with the TTB tax law updates section, but didn't find anything. I did print and read the good CCH synopsis that was available immediately. (A link was posted here on another thread.)

It isn't about the TTB page changes or not needing to file until mid-Feb. It is about being up to speed right away on the newest laws, because clients are hearing news about the changes and are already contacting me with their questions. We naturally look to TTB to help us be the experts. (Not complaining about TTB; just responding to Piglee's post. I believe TTB will have a good, useful update for us when they can.)

Update shortcut method

Here is a quick and easy way to update your book. Basically, everything in the new law affecting 2010 tax returns is already covered in the book. We listed each of these on pages i and ii in the front of your book, along with the current status as of December 1, 2010. Then on our summary chart that was posted today on our website, we say whether or not that provision was extended for 2010. Simply make a notation in your book on each page whether or not that rule was extended or not, and you are done. Everything else in the new law not covered in our book generally applies for 2011 and beyond, except for the new estate tax provisions that apply for 2010.

Updated Pages

Just updated the pages in my Deluxe Tax book. I printed pages and in some cases stapled the new page over the old and in others just wrote the changes on the page. Took about 2 hours. What else do I have to do between 7 and 9 am ... I am retired If your sleep or time is worth more than mine ... I suggest you buy the binder and pre-punched paper!

I tried that last year. It's a good idea. The only thing that I really didn't like was that the pages don't flip as easily in the binder. It was kinda a PITA. I really hated using the Tax Book last year because it was in the binder. This year I'm going to print updates on the leftover pre-punched paper and reassemble the comb-binding instead.

More time but alot less aggrevation.

I just updated my TTB and I really like how the ifs and buts where already incorporated in printing TTB.
