My advise is to join a local tax group and partner up with someone to check your work, at least for the first year or so. It's worth whatever you might have to pay this person. I've been in business 17 years and I still have contacts who on occasion check my work, if I have a particularly difficult return. I also check work for them. We charge each other the same "special" rate.

Don't know what state you are in, but several states have not only EA chapters, but also licensed tax consultants organizations (CA, OR and a few others that regulate doing taxes) They also provide excellent education without having to travel too far.

Also, since you are not familiar with payroll I highly suggest that you team up with a payroll company and refer all payrolls to them. I've teamed up with Compupay. They prepare my payroll for free and I also get a small percentage back for the clients that I refer to them. I did payroll returns for 15 years and finally decided that I might want to go on vacation during some of those deadlines. Especially April 30 and October 31. You can't do that when you are running a business by yourself and prepare payroll returns.
