    Duel Monitors with Win 7

I did a TTB search and came across a thread discussing WinXP duel monitors but did not see Win 7 mention but I understand there is a way to hook an external monitor to my laptop and run a separate program on each monitor but upon my research, all I came up with is how to have the same disply on both monitors. In my "Change the appearance of your disply" page within my control panel of my laptop, it recognizes my 2nd monitor but when I chose " Show desktop only on 1", under Multiple Displays, #1 is not affected but #2 just displays the windows flag icon with no task bar. I can move the my cursor to #2 but I cannot move it back to #1. I need to disconnect #2 altogether to get my cursor back to #1. With no task bar on #2, how can I open a program.

Your experience so far sure has all the elements of a duel...

Sounds like Win 7 cannot but Ultramon can...

I watch this you tube video about multi monitors and other videos and I am getting the impression Win 7 does not allow task bars on all monitors and instead you have to open the app in monitor 1 and drag the app to monitor 2 oposed to opening a app in monitor 2.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

        XP Duel Monitors

I can only comment on XP Duel Monitors, and that is how my Duel Monitors work, task bar on #1 - no task bar on #2 - I open on Monitor #1 and drag the screen to Monitor #2

I run dual monitors with my desktops (1 running vista, and another windows 7), and I use a software called Ultramon (I think $35 with 30 day free trial). It has many features, but the most useful is it allows me to have a taskbar on the second monitor.

There are a number of software out there (google 'dual monitor software'), but I am not sure if there is any freeware. I personally am quite happy using Ultramon (been using it for 6 years).

With Ultramon.....How do you move the mouse from one monitor from another? When your mouse is in any of the monitors that has a task bar, are you allowed to click on task bar within that monitor and open an app w/o affecting the other monitors?

Upon another search I located a FREE version of MultiMon Taskbar which according to the article is better the UltraMon: http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm

I have a Laptop, and I plug in a second monitor, so my clients can see me input their tax return. I just pulg it in and it works.

What I would like to do is to have another monitor for me to look at last years return, but I only have one monitor plugin on my laptop. So am I limited to just one additional screen?

It works quite naturally. Whatever works that you do on one monitor (including clicking on task bar or windows) do not affect the other monitor. And you can easily move any window (and the corresponding taskbar) to the other monitor without having to drag.

Many of this software have some kind of trial period. So you can try it and uninstall it if you don't like.

Good luck. I have been using dual-monitor for 6 years, and I can't say enough about how much more productive I am with it. I highly recommend getting a second monitor to anyone who does a lot of work on the computer. It's better than getting one super large monitor.

                    use two monitors

I use the screen on my laptop and have another larger monitor. But I am sorry to say I cannot give you any help about setting it up. My son in law did it.
My icons and taskbar are on my laptop screen. Most programs open on my laptop and I drag them over to the other screen.

He does have it set up so that when I open the internet, it opens on my larger screen. Also my outlook opens on that screen.

My mouse just goes back and forth between the two of them. When I move the mouse to the left it goes to my laptop screen and to the right it is on the larger screen.

Wish I could tell you how he did it but I can't. But I know it can be done.

                    Linda

                      Hi AZ-Tax,

Never heard of the MultiMon taskbar, but I read the article you linked and the software does sound promising especially for the price.

For many setups, Ultramon is redundant with utilities already provided with the internal video card. It is possible that your son-in-law used one of the existing utilities that comes with your video adapter.

Was not able to load FREE Mutimon software

Upon downloading the FREE "multimon", after installing etc a window appeared saying "Your System has no multiple-monitor support". I run Win7 and I am able to run 2 monitors but only one monitor has a task bar. Even after rebooting, the same window with the same message appeared.

Based on this website, there looks to be several Cos. that offer multi monitor software. Here is a side by side comparison http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...nitor_software

Keep working at it, and pretty soon you can achieve this level of perfection:
