I do my walking in the mall nowadays and noticed a lot of activity at H&B Block office. This is December. They don't look like people that are concerned about their estimated taxes. What are they doing in there?

Yes, Emerald Advance
Block is offering Lines of Credit which they call Emerald Advance loans. Maximum is $1500 (I think) minus fees. They can be paid off from tax refund in February but there are other payoff options. Many Block offices are offering them this month with the hope that the customers will then make appointments to have their taxes done beginning next month. A credit check is done before the loan is funded--and those approved can receive funds immediately in the form of a check or have money put on a debit card.Comment
