    Client is MN resident and is setting up electrical rental business in Wisconsin (large generator cost $15,000). Client has cabin in Wisc where generator will be stored. He answered my question; cabin has electric and gas. Plans to hire electrician in Wisc to set up generator at rented site. Wants to incorporate to prevent liability issue. (I did not recommend this). Plans to obtain Wisconsin tax ID. He wants a MN tax ID too. Can anyone see why a MN tax ID is necessary? Any thoughts on this entire issue?

    He would only need to have ONE EIN and it should be in the State in which he is incorporated. There would only be one business and hence one EIN.

      He needs only one Federal EIN, but each state in which he has property physically located in may require an additional state tax registration for sales tax, property tax, or other state tax issues:
