NYC Decedent Pension Distribution

One of my clients is a retired New York State employee. She received a total pension distribution of her deceased son who was an employee of New York City (about $100k) until his death. I Excluded the total amount from the beneficiary's NYS tax return. Am I correct?

I believe you are correct. Bennies get to treat distributions just as the deceased would of been treated (or not in this case). NYS may send a notice in a year or two but all should be OK.
