    PTIN Registration Solution

If you are having trouble receiving the e-mail with your initial password, set up a free e-mail account at Yahoo.com or Hotmail.com.

That works. Per suggestion of the IRS when I finally got thru to a live person.

They don't know why there is a problem, but this fixes it.

I just got this in my email:

The IRS Online PTIN Sign-Up System will be unavailable beginning approximately 8:00 am EST Saturday, October 9, 2010 until approximately 8:00 am Monday, October 11, 2010 due to system maintenance.

Apparently it is in dire need of some kind of maintenance. If it worked properly, it would eliminate the need for all those phone calls that are so numerous you have to spend two hours on hold.

I have not applied for the PTIN yet. I'll do it before the end of the year. I have my old PTIN until then. Why get envolved in this mess now when later all the issues will get cleaned up.

I could not get through with nothing or noone for a whole week so I mailed mine with a check. It got ridiculous so instead of stressing out the form and ck went certified.

I have not received my e-mail with a password. I thought it might be because I have not filed my 09 tax return yet, so I have been working on getting it e-filed.

I think I will finish my return and try using my hotmail address. Thanks for the suggestion.

Mine went smoothly, but the only response I have received is, "we got your money!"

I do not have proof that I am indeed registered.
