    Does IRS send acknowledgement

When we amend a return and there is zero tax change (and IRS has not questioned anything), does IRS send a letter to the taxpayer acknowledging receipt of the amended return?
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

In the cases like that, my clients do receive a letter, it's the form letter that tells them that the changes have been made to their records and they owe a balance of $0 and should remit payment in the enclosed envelope within 15 days to avoid future interest and penalty charges.

      Lol

Yeah, and they bring you the letter in a panic...

      Thanks!

If a state amendment is needed that letter of acceptance maybe needed before the state amendment can be filed. Illinois requires acceptance and settlement of the federal amended return before the state amendment can be filed and requires a copy of the acceptance documents.

          Letter will eventually arrive

I doubt if the IRS will send you anything acknowledging "receipt" of your paper tax return, but so far as I know they always send a letter (even for "no tax change") once the return has been processed.

            response letters

The IRS has been sending out letters when you answer one of their letters that says they have received your correspondence and will contact within 60 days when they have had time to read and process your response.

Several like that have come this year. But those have been when something was done in response to an original letter from IRS. I don't know if they will do that just with an amended return.
