"System Standby Failed"

This message started appearing on my screen when it was inactive. Also the following:

'Microsoft, NET framework v1.1.4322 update' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again.

Can anybody explain what happened and what to do to prevent this from appearing on my screen?
