In order for the tax to calculate correctly, I have to use prior year's software to amend return. Those years did not have new 1040X form. Do I have to use new form? This means manually processing to print in this year's software.

My understanding is that the IRS will accept either the one column or the three column version of the 1040X for open tax years.
