"Were you at Woodstock?"
I wonder how many who claimed to be there really were.
Our little town of 9,000 is being invaded this week by some 100,000 visitors from all over the country, for a Woodstock-type event. Manchester, if not known for anything else, is on the national map once a year with the Bonnaroo festival.
It is truly the sound of money. The average attendee spends well over $100 for tickets alone. For some reason, I never end up with any of this. All that seems to happen is Callie complaining about traffic congestion in just going to the grocery.
You see them all over town - old hippies, young hippies, drug culture, flowery busses, most of them looking for beer and ice to take back to their tents and campers. Some years rain will lock itself in for the duration, and of course there is no concrete or drainage on the Bonaroo farm. The overwhelming numbers of them are very nice to us locals, and just wanna hang out on the farm and get stoned and smashed.
If you're not into this stuff, Manchester is not a good place to be this four-day weekend. For our visitors, rain is in the forecast every day, with highs around 94 muggy degrees.
Y'all come!!
