    Homeowners association

My one homeowners association brought me their information to prepare their return. They are on a fiscal year July through June. Her coversheet with list of deposits and expenses says beginning balance 6/30/08 (or 7/01/08) and ending balance 6/30/09. That really confused me.
I am doing a 2008 return that should have been prepared by the 15th day of the third month after the close of the fiscal year. So this should have been done by Sept. 15th. Am I right?

She should be bringing me the information that goes from 7/01/09 to 6/30/10 which would be due on Sept 15th.

I started to do a 2009 return and realized I hadn't done the 2008. I wondered if they took it to someone else, but now I am thinking not since her information shows dates for the next year.

Am I right? Am I doing a 2008 return with this information which is late? Shouldn't I be doing a 2009 by Sept. 15th?

At the risk of being obvious....it's only June 5th in my neck of the woods. So it would be difficult for your client to be giving you info for the current fiscal year end of June 30 as it isn't over yet.
Looks like you are doing a delinquent return. And an FYI, a Form 1120-H didn't used to be an option for a delinquent return....

      missed a year

I went back to my deposits to see when I did the last return and it was August of 2008. So I think the change in treasurer of the group must have caused the slip up.

I just spoke to a very nice gentlemen at the IRS. I called the business and specialty tax help line. He said to go ahead and send the 1120H in f=and see what happens. It has been his experience that the action taken is usually very little if there is no money involved. He said then to make sure this year is filed on time.

So that is what I will do. If we run into any problems, I will let you know for the future.

      Thanks
