    TTB Book or CD ??

It's time to re-order The Tax Book. I have always used the books, Deluxe and All States, but now that I spend most of the off season in CT and not VA, I'm thinking I should get the CD this year.

    What do you use?

Does the CD have a search option that might make it easier to use?

    I get

the CD and the All States Book. I like the CD because I don't need to print out updated pages and put them in the book. The CD also means I don't need to lug a book from place to place as I change work locations. If the All States Book kept getting updated or was on the CD I would stop ordering the printed book.

      Both

I plan to continue ordering both - the physical book, and the CD as well.

The physical book is worth its cost when you pick it up in front of a client and look up something. Many of my clients say "Golllly!" and some of them ask to take a gander at it. I tell them I carry it around because it will solve 99.9% of all problems instead of having to tote around an entire library. I also tell them it is specifically written for preparers, and by preparers.

        both~~

I do like writing in the book for future reference, but when I travel, it's too much to carry along.

        I'm leaning toward both...

        thanks!

          Like the CD

I like an actual book to sit back in an easy chair to do some research but I also like the search feature and easy updates to the electronic version.

I compromised and buy the print version of QuickFinder that I've ordered for years and the electronic version of The TaxBook. I probably use the print book a bit more but I love using this Message Board and would feel quilty using so much without purchasing their product.

I still order both. Just can not do without the paper one, but like the CD for searching and the updates. I sure wish I could highlight, underline, and tag pages with the CD. I also wish they would give us a break on the price if we order both. I started with the Quickfinder in 1987, and would not do without it. The best resource book ever!!

I use the CD only. I CAN underline things on the CD using Adobe acrobat.
I like the ability to click on a reference in the index or elsewhere and jump to whatever I want to look at. Also, if you have several reference pages, you can copy a list of them and then just enter a page number at the top of the screen and jump to that page, then do the same for the next one on your list.

Can you underline on the CD because you have Adobe Acrobat or do you have to do something intentionally to be able to underline?

Then do you keep the copy of reference pages on a separate word document?

                  Underlining.

All I have to do is open it with Acrobat (instead of with Adobe Reader) then go to the top of the screen and select the underline icon, then underline it. I can also select 'typewriter' and add a comment if I want to.

I have sometimes saved a page as a word document if I expected to refer to it several times.

Usually, I don't save the pages I look at, but I think the underlining remains.

Normally I would have been too cheap to buy Acrobat, but I bought a scanner that included acrobat.

I bought Adobe a couple of years ago so I could do that. But if I remember right, if you did an update, then all the markings I put in disapeared. It was the year we had updates almost every week. If I remembered right I called The Tax Book Support, and they said I could do one or the other, not both. So I quit, have they changed something that I was not aware of, or does it work this year because of only 1 early update?
