Union employees mileage

Let's see if my memory serves me right: Mileage for union workers is counted from the union hall to job site and not from their home.

I tried to find an earlier post I was sure Snagletooth has responded to but couldn't find it.

The union hall is not the regular place of employment. Mileage between the union hall & work site is considered commuting mileage.

agree with Y2KEA until I looked it up. TTB 10-5....."costs getting from union hall to work site are nondeductible commuting".

However, what my liebchen remembers about traveling costs from union hall to job site harkens back to the days of when laborers regularly congregated at union hall early in the morning and were then sent out by the union to various job sites. I don't suppose this happens these days, what with modern communications being what they are.

Today laborers are picked up at Home Depot and Lowe's and in front of state employment offices by employers, so they won't have any transportation expenses to deduct.
LOL; assuming of course they get a 1099 form!

Thanks, everyone and especially to Haensel (wrong conclusion - ich bin nicht so alt wie du denkst or maybe just didn't deal with union employees at that time to remember).

Nobody actually answered my question. I will try again and actually have another question in this context.

1. Commuting for union workers should have the same rules applied as other biz travel for either temporary out of town work or mileage outside metropolitan area, right? - If we look at mileage - home to work site or union hall to work site?

2. If they get subsistence pay if location is over 50 miles away, do I as an employer (for taxable fringe benefits purposes), need to be concerned about if they use their own transportation, and if they stay overnight since their home is maybe 200 miles but union hall is only 52 miles?
