    Did not mail Sch M

I have a client that came in on April 14. She mails her return to the IRS. I printed the copy of the return for her to mail and evidently did not print a Sch M. I did take the credit on line 63, but no Sch M was mailed with the return.

Because IRS is giving this credit to people that did not even file for it, do you think I should contact the IRS about sending a Sch M or just hope everything will go through per the 1040, which has the credit on it?

Because the credit is on line 63, do you think I should expect an error letter from IRS?

    Thanks!

    My guess

....is that it will go through without the Schedule M.

Maybe try checking the "Where's my Refund?" online to see if it has been processed yet.

I believe you may get a letter asking for the required form. Especially if it is not for $400 (S) or $800 (MFJ) due to some adjustment. And how are people getting it "that did not even file for it."

Don't mean to put words into any one's mouth

But I took it to mean that the IRS is adjusting for the $400/$800 making work pay credit mess, some taxpayers receiving more, some less, some with, some without the Schedule M.

          IRS sending $400

I had two different clients who had filed EZ returns for their non-dependent children say their child had gotten $400 extra dollars for a credit they did not file for. According to them, IRS is adding it to the refund even if they did not claim the credit.

Since the EZ form automatically claims an exemption for the filer unless you check otherwise, they would be entitled to it if earnings were sufficient. So the software the IRS is using is auto-issuing the credit. I had one of these too, only she should NOT have claimed herself. We had to amend and pay back the MWP credit so the parents could claim her and use the education credit.

And along comes the old query...

              ....why not efile??

(Didn't I read somewhere that the IRS in the reasonably near future is going to require efiling by paid preparers??)
