    Professional Tax Forum

One of us has implied there is information being exchanged on another board whose membership is restricted to "professionals." The context of the conversation was that some of our former members have ceased using TTB board because of this more professional constituency.

Taxea, I would ask that you simply reveal to us the existence of this very professional board so those of us who are professional can ascend to these lofty heights. Do this, and I promise I'll shut up about it.

In the meantime, I'll continue to wallow in the comraderie of those who use and have benefitted from this [emphasize FREE] TTB forum.

    Professional Tax Forum

    That is not entirely true.

There IS another board where the forum is primarily for the benefit of tax pros - but it is not restricted SOLELY to them.

What happened was - there was continuous abuse by do-it-yourselfers asking for free advice, and students asking board users to do their homework for them, solicitors posting advertisements promoting their products/services.

It got to the point where tax pros were getting quite disgusted at having to waste their time reading a post only to discover it was from one of those groups.

So - after much controversy - the board moderators devised a system - where to ASK a question related to Taxes OR Accounting - one first had to identify if they were a tax pro or a member of the public.

If a non pro were to ask a question, it would be accepted if they were to post it on a Consumer Forum so if a pro was interested in answering - at least it would be known ahead of time so as not to waste readers' time or exasperate the pros from reading unwanted posts.

      Similar

Samantha, sounds like if it exists, its nature and history is to some extent the same as ours. This one has as its target constituency those customers who purchase TTB, who are largely tax professionals. And there have been somewhat similar experiences with posts from obvious laymen, curiosity-seekers, advertisers, and even tax protesters.

Can't vouch for the exact same monitoring process, but the end result is that we have a tax forum for professionals as well.

      You are one of them.

There are a number of other tax message boards but one that is very good is:
        http:/www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discussion_Forum_-_Tax_Questions

Some very DEEP discussions are posted there.

Quickfinder.com has a good message board but loads slowly.

I didn't post the location because I didn't think it was the proper thing to do. Had you asked I would have been happy to put it in a private email. Apparently others didn't agree about my thinking it improper.
So you need not be so snarky because you got your answer. And one more thing...the posters there don't take things personally.

the difference is this site invites less than professionals whereas the other one discourages them. It does appear to me that this forum was not as inundated with the non-pros this year.

Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

Taxea, I challenged you to reveal the website instead of simply alluding to it. Others have done so. I am somewhat defensive about other respected members when their professionalism is suspect. Like you say, I have my answer, so there will be no more banter.

              Wait a minute

Wait a minute. Is the other board Tax Almanac? I stopped going there long ago since it was so full of DIYers. I guess I should check it out again.

I review the site and found nothing different and in some cases info not related to everyday tax practice issues. TTB is by far better suited to my needs.
