    Fees from refund

Someone had a message on this forum recently concerning getting preparation fees
from clients refund. Cost was $12. Did not involve rapid refund loan that I understood.

Curious how this works? Who handles procedure for preparer?

I use ATX by CCH. CCH has an arrangement with SBBT called fee collect. For a $15.00 fee they collect the preparer fees out of the client's refund -it is direct deposited to your account. It is not available if you do RAL's or other refund services. I use this service for those few clients (maybe 5) that are always slow to pay and have refunds.

      Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Curious if any other programs offer this. Seems like a good way
to take care of clients who are always short of money and those that go to the big box preparers because they do not have to come with money out of their pockets when they pick up their return.

        e-Collect from Drake

        Drake offers e-Collect. $12.

Works very nice. It has enabled me to get my fee at the same time as the client gets the balance deposited into his account when I normally had to wait a few weeks, sometimes more, for these slow-pay clients.

These have been with me for years.

I put in my year-end newsletter and I even had others that wanted to do it.

That is very interesting. I used to work with SBBT through Pro-Series for 2-3 RAL's and some Refund Transfers (all they did was was you described above. SBBT stopped offering this service in Jan. 10, bank that took over was not allowed to do RAL's (which I don't plan to offer anymore anyway) just the checks and DD for the refund and fees withheld. They charged $32.95 for this.

Is this SBBT you still work with? Maybe I can contact them for this special product.

I get my fees with no problem because I will not file the return until the client pays for it.
I don't see any point in paying someone else part of my fee jus to get paid.

If I could charge the client for a direct deposit maybe it would be worth it because then the client would be paying for this service but since that is not the case and I also cannot put my bank account number and fee amount on the direct deposit form I'll just keep doing what I am doing.

The client wants their refund and the sooner they pay me, the sooner they get it.

I am curious though, what happens if the client sets this up with you and then changes his mind after the return is filed? Can he call the company that handles this service and say...I don't want to do it this way?
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.
